JOHNSON COUNTY (WISH) — A two-year-old boy is dead after he fell out of a moving SUV and was run over Saturday evening in Greenwood. The incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. near Yellowwood Drive and Mahogany Drive. According to a report from the Johnson Couty Sheriff’s Office, an officer arrived at the scene and was approached by a woman who was “distraught” and said that she “hit her baby.” The child’s father was holding the boy, who was later identified as two-year-old Kai’zan Booker. Booker had visible signs of head trauma, bleeding heavily from his head and mouth, and showed no signs of consciousness. He was rushed to Riley Children’s Hospital, where he later died. According to the police report, the child’s mother told investigators the family had spent the day looking at rental homes in the area. When it was time to leave, another member of the group placed the toddler into his car seat in the rear driver’s side of the SUV and closed the door. She heard the door shut, buckled up, and pulled out of the driveway, according to the police report. When she turned west, the father yelled that the door was open and the boy had fallen out. She said she ran over him before she could stop. The man who placed the child in the seat told investigators he did not buckle him in and couldn’t confirm whether the car seat itself was secured. A nearby witness said he saw the rear of the SUV rise as it went over what he thought was a bump, then watched the family pour out of the vehicle in a panic. When investigators searched the SUV, they found the seatbelt for the rear driver’s seat tucked behind the seat. The mother consented to a blood draw at the scene.
