Exit ramps on Interstate 295 to Route 73 in Mount Laurel will remain closed for about two more weeks after severe weather and unexpected equipment problems caused construction to take longer than planned, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. NJDOT’s update comes after the c losures went into effect on July 29 for priority gas main work in Mount Laurel, Burlington County. Initially, officials said the closures would last for about a month. But in an update sent on Friday, Sept. 19, they told NBC10 the work will take about two more weeks. The closures include the southbound Exit 36A ramp to Route 73 southbound and the northbound Exit 36B ramp to Route 73 northbound. Transportation officials said PSEG has completed its emergency work on the gas main on Route 73 over I-295, which took longer than expected because of severe weather and equipment issues. The remaining work includes reconstruction of the median barrier and paving. The following detours are available for drivers: I-295 southbound Exit 36A to Route 73 southbound Drivers are directed to continue on I-295 southbound Take Exit 34B/Route 70 westbound Continue on Route 70 westbound Turn right onto Route 41/Kings Highway northbound Stay right for Old Kings Highway, back to Route 73 southbound I-295 northbound Exit 36B to Route 73 northbound Drivers are directed to continue on I-295 northbound Take Exit 40B/Route 38 westbound Continue on Route 38 westbound Stay right to take the ramp onto Route 73 northbound NJDOT said it will provide advance notice before reopening the ramps.
