Police identified a young man who drowned at the beach in North Wildwood, New Jersey. On Thursday, Sept. 17, at 2:09 p.m., North Wildwood Police, North Wildwood firefighters and the North Wildwood Beach Patrol responded to the area of 2nd Avenue and the Beach for a report of a swimmer in distress . When they arrived, they spotted multiple surfers who had entered the water and located an unconscious man – later identified as 21-year-old Ahmet Yimenici of Turkey. Firefighters and the Beach Patrol began life saving measures on Yimenici who was then taken to Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional where he was pronounced dead. Police said at this time the incident does not appear to involve foul play. “Our hearts go out to Mr. Yimenici’s family during this incredibly difficult time. I also want to recognize the quick actions of the surfers and civilians on scene,” North Wildwood Police Chief Katherine Madden said. “Their willingness to act without hesitation gave this young man the best possible chance, and we’re grateful for their courage.” North Wildwood police urged the public to only swim in areas where lifeguards are present and on duty.
