The Briscoe Western Art Museum is the Must-Visit Destination for Hispanic Heritage Month       New Exhibition, Two Landmark Shows on Display, a Lineup of Fall Programming The Briscoe announces the upcoming opening of Kathy Sosa: Revolutionary Women of Texas and Mexico on October 15. Featuring more than 30 works by the celebrated San Antonio artist, this exhibition marks the highly anticipated reopening of the museum’s refreshed Women of the West Gallery. Through stunning paintings, mixed media, and sculptures, Sosa’s work brings the stories of soldaderas, saints, and subversives to the forefront. It acts as the perfect contemporary companion to the Briscoe’s massive, nearly 400-year historical exhibition, Tejano Legacy.     For information about all these events go HERE.       A Visual Trifecta Visitors this season can experience an unprecedented trifecta of Mexican-American history and art: Kathy Sosa: Revolutionary Women of Texas and Mexico (Opens Oct. 15, 2026 – June 14, 2027): A vibrant, contemporary look at the fierce women who actively shaped borderlands culture. Tejano Legacy: Another American Origin Story (On view through Jan. 18, 2027): The largest exhibition in the Briscoe’s history, featuring over 100 rare historical artifacts and masterpieces bridging Texas and Mexico.     Selena Forever | Siempre Selena (On view through Jan. 4, 2027): A poignant tribute showcasing photographer John Dyer’s iconic, large-scale portraits of the Tejano superstar during her rapid rise in the early ’90s. Live Culture Beyond the Galleries The celebration extends well past the frames on the wall with dynamic public programming to include: Sept. 10 | Lotería Night: Hosted by local influencer Jasper St. James, bringing a 200-year-old tradition to life with drinks, food, and prizes. Sept. 19 | Tejano Legacy Academic Symposium: A deep dive into borderlands scholarship featuring top historians and guest curator Gabriela Gámez. Sept. 26 | Sculpture Masterclass: An intimate, day-long workshop with master sculptor Enrique “Kiko” Guerra. Oct. 3 | “What Does It Mean to Be Tejano Today?” Panel: A conversation bridging history and modern identity with civic leader Erika Prosper, Poet Laureate Eddie Vega, and scholar John Phillip Santos.     Oct. 22 | Llamativa Free Concert: A high-energy, free live performance by San Antonio’s all-female cumbia group.       Nov. 7 19 | Documentary Screenings: Special presentations of Los Tejanos and Truly Texas Mexican, exploring how film and food traditions carry cultural memory across generations.     Programs and details are subject to change. Explore the American West in the Heart of Downtown San Antonio Located on the River Walk near La Villita in downtown San Antonio, the Briscoe preserves and presents the art, history and culture of the American West through exhibitions and programming exploring Wildlife and the Land; Native People of the Americas; Tejanos, Vaqueros and Spanish heritage; and Cowboys and the American Frontier. The museum is open Thursday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday through Monday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and closed to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
