TOWN OF DAVIE HOSTS ANNUAL MAYORS’ CHESS CHALLENGE

The Town of Davie Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is hosting its annual Mayors’ Chess Challenge on Saturday, October 3, 2026. This free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Pine Island Multipurpose Center, 3801 S. Pine Island Road.
Players of all ages and skill lev
els are welcome to participate and will have the opportunity to challenge elected officials and community leaders to a friendly chess match. Instructors from Chess Art will be available to help those who are new to the game.
The Mayors’ Chess Challenge originated in South Florida 11 years ago to highlight the benefits of chess, which is considered one of the oldest and most intriguing games, and is now hosted by 20 municipalities throughout the year. Players learn critical-thinking skills, improve concentration and discipline, develop problem-solving skills, build self-esteem, and practice good sportsmanship. Participants can pick up a special “passport” to log all the local events they attend.
The Town will provide chessboards for competition use and light refreshments will be available. Raffle prizes will be awarded to participants.
