The Little River Wetlands Project announces its annual Monarch Festival. Celebrate the incredible lifecycle and transformation of monarch butterflies through a variety of engaging programs and activities. It will be held on Sunday, September 20th, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Eagle Marsh Nature Preserve barn, located at 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. This family-friendly event is $3 for adults, and free for children and LRWP members. It is open to the public. Guests can observe live monarchs at different stages of their life cycle, participate in butterfly tagging before the monarchs are released, and enjoy educational presentations, learning stations, and hands-on activities for all ages. Attendees can also take home milkweed and other native plants, learn about local conservation projects from community partners, visit with local vendors and nonprofit organizations, enjoy food trucks, and participate in the children’s pollinator parade. General parking is available along Engle Road, which will be closed for the event. A quarter-mile walk will lead you to the festival. Accessible parking and transportation support are available. Little River Wetlands Project (LRWP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit land trust that protects more than 1,300 acres of wetlands in the Little River watershed. Their mission is to restore and protect wetlands in the historic watershed of the Little River, a major tributary of the Wabash River, and to provide educational opportunities that encourage good stewardship of wetlands and other natural ecosystems.
