Park City Ski Snowboard is seeking volunteers to help with this year’s Jans Winter Welcome, a community fundraiser for Youth Sports Alliance and various community sports organizations, on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Stein Eriksen Lodge. The volunteer slots available are listed below and include tas ks like printing out name tags, checking attendees in and videography. In 1980, Jan Peterson, founder of JANS Mountain Outfitters, started the Winter Welcome after seeing that some of his daughter’s friends couldn’t afford the cost of ski racing. “This started because Jan wanted every kid to have the chance to ski regardless of cost,” Emily Fisher, executive director of the Youth Sports Alliance, told The Park Record in an interview last fall. “Last year (2024) was the first time we cracked a million dollars in revenue. It’s incredible to see how this event has grown.” The Youth Sports Alliance took over the event in 2002, shortly after the Olympic Games, and has continued to carry on Peterson’s vision of keeping local kids active and engaged in sport. The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 24, at Stein Eriksen Lodge to support the Youth Sports Alliance and seven local winter sports clubs that provide training opportunities for young athletes in Park City, including Park City Ski and Snowboard, Wasatch Freestyle, Figure Skating Club of Park City, Park City Ice Miners Hockey, Park City Speedskating Club, Utah Olympic Park Bobsled and Skeleton and the Wasatch Luge Club.
