Marcus’ 4 a.m. Monday forecast
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana gets a one-day reprieve from the heat and humidity Monday before summer-like heat moves back into the forecast for the middle of the week.
Today
High pressure remains firmly in control across central Indiana, bring
ing sunshine and significantly more comfortable conditions. Dewpoints will drop into the 50s, making it feel noticeably less muggy compared to recent days.
Expect sunny skies with highs ranging from the mid 70s across northeastern counties to the lower 80s in southwestern Indiana.
Tonight
Clear skies continue with overnight lows dropping into the upper 50s to lower 60s. Not quite as crisp as temperatures this morning.
Tomorrow (Tuesday)
The heat and humidity return with a vengeance. Southwesterly flow will pump temperatures into the low to mid 90s across the Indianapolis metro, with heat index values climbing to around 100 degrees by afternoon.
Dewpoints will surge back into the upper 60s to lower 70s, creating that sticky, oppressive feel. Late in the day, storms may develop north of Interstate 70 as a weak disturbance moves through. Timing for any storms would be late afternoon through early evening. A few of the storms could be strong – especially in the northern half of the state. Damaging wind is the main concern for any severe storm that would develop.
Extended Outlook
Tuesday Night Through Wednesday: A frontal boundary will set up across the region, bringing multiple rounds of thunderstorms. Precipitable water values will climb to 1.75 to 2 inches, supporting the potential for locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds. The highest storm coverage is expected Wednesday as the boundary stalls nearby.
Thursday-Friday: Isolated afternoon storms remain possible each afternoon as heat and humidity persist. Highs will range from the mid 80s to lower 90s depending on cloud cover and storm timing. The muggy conditions continue with dewpoints remaining in the uncomfortable range.
Weekend: Another frontal system will return southward across Indiana, increasing scattered storm chances Saturday and Sunday. This will finally bring some relief, with temperatures cooling to the low to mid 80s by Sunday. A few isolated storms will be possible over the weekend as well.
