Dispute over bar seat leads to stabbing, police pursuit in Delaware

A Delaware man is facing several charges after police said he stabbed another man over a dispute about a seat at a bar, then led officers on a pursuit.
According to Delaware State Police, on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, around 9 p.m., troopers responded to the Crab Barn, located at 32600 Long Neck R
oad, after receiving a report of a stabbing.
When troopers go to the scene, police said they that a 44-year-old man had been stabbed by another man, identified as 67-year-old Douglas Clay, of Millsboro, following a disagreement over a seat at the bar.
The victim was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said.
Before troopers arrived, police said Clay had fled on a motorcycle, and a short time later, troopers saw Clay traveling northbound on Indian Mission Road.
Police said when troopers tried to pull him over he sped away.
Curing the pursuit, police sad Clay drove recklessly and at a high rate of speed on several area roads and ultimately came to a stop in Milton where he was taken into custody.
Police said lay was taken to an area hospital for a medical issue and during their contact with him, troopers observed multiple signs of impairment.
After being released from the hospital, police said Clay was taken in an charged with first degree assault and other related offenses.
