Law enforcement then conducted a room-by-room search of the school.Manitowoc Public School District Superintendent Lee Thennes said no weapon was found."Following that extensive search, law enforcement confirmed that there was no weapon on campus and no threat to our students or staff."Thennes said the threat was not considered real after the search was completed."The threat that was perceived was not a real threat in terms of, we didn't find a weapon."Parents were initially directed to Citizens Park, the school's reunification area for situations like this. While at the park, police alerted parents they should return to Wilson to pick up their children there.The district says it will always communicate verified information to families as soon as it is safe to do so.Thennes said the district has a zero-tolerance approach to threats."Any statements involving weapons of threat, regardless of intent will result in full investigation, serious consequences. It is critical our students learn that threats of violence of any kind will not be tolerated."The incident is under investigation. The district says anyone with questions or concerns about support for their child can contact their school's counseling team.ORIGINAL: Reports of a student with a weapon prompted a large police presence at Wilson Middle School in Manitowoc on Friday afternoon.According to Manitowoc police, officers responded to a report of a student who potentially had a weapon. Police said the students of interest were identified and no weapons were found.No students were injured, and all students are safe at this time, police said.Parents are asked to avoid the school because students are expected to be released at their normal dismissal time, according to police.The investigation remains ongoing.A heavy law enforcement presence was reported at Wilson Middle School in Manitowoc on Friday afternoon.Police and Wisconsin State Patrol vehicles blocked road entrances to the school.NBC 26 has a crew at the scene working to learn more.
