Twenty-five years ago today, Islamic extremists hijacked four U.S. commercial airplanes in the name of al-Qaida, flying two into the soaring towers of the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon, and crashing one in a Pennsylvania field amid a heroic passenger rebellion. The events of Sept. 11, 2001, marked the deadliest terror attacks in history, killing nearly 3,000 people. Tributes and ceremonies are taking place across North Texas in remembrance of the lives lost during the attacks. Below is a list of events where North Texans can pay tribute to the victims and honor the survivors of the attack at the World Trade Center 25 years ago. Grapevine City of Grapevine The City of Grapevine is hosting a Day of Remembrance ceremony just after 7:30 a.m. on Friday. The event will be held at the Texan Trail, where they have their 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial. There will also be a live stream on the City of Grapevine Facebook page for those unable to attend in person. Following the remembrance ceremony, MARCH 455 will begin. An escort from the Grapevine Fire Department and Grapevine Police Department will lead 455 uniformed first responders on a 1.3-mile march through Grapevine. The 455 participants will walk in honor of the 455 firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. The march will travel from the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial down Wall Street, through Historic Downtown Main Street, and culminate at Peace Plaza. Grapevine High School The Grapevine High School wrestling team is hosting its seventh annual 9/11 Tribute Stair Climb at 7:30 a.m., Friday, September 11, at Mustang Panther Stadium, 2909 Ira E Woods Ave, Grapevine, TX 76051. The Mustangs started the tradition to pay tribute to the 412 emergency responders who gave their lives as heroes on 9/11. GHS wrestlers will partner with first responders from the cities of Grapevine, Colleyville, and Euless to climb 1,980 inclined steps, replicating the 110 flights of stairs that heroes climbed inside the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. Many members of the wrestling team also carry weighted vests or backpacks to simulate the weight carried by 9/11 first responders. This year, on the 25th anniversary, the names of the victims who lost their lives will be read during the stair climb tribute. Dallas Museum of Biblical Art ​​In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas presents “Together We Remember,” a powerful art exhibition exploring memory, loss, resilience, and hope through the work of contemporary artists. Opening on September 11th, 2026, and running through December 19th, 2026, the exhibition brings together artists whose work reflects on the lasting impact of September 11th on individuals, families, first responders, communities, and the nation. Through painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, and installation, the exhibition invites visitors to consider how collective memory is preserved and how art can help foster dialogue across generations. George W. Bush Presidential Center Twenty-five years after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, visitors to the George W. Bush Presidential Center can stand inches away from pieces of history that helped define one of the darkest days in American history. Inside the center’s permanent “Nation Under Attack” exhibit, twisted steel from the World Trade Center, high-security communications received by President George W. Bush, the bullhorn used at Ground Zero, and the baseball Bush threw during the 2001 World Series serve as reminders of a day that changed the nation forever. Participants will climb roughly 2,000 to 2,200 steps, representing 110 stories of the World Trade Center, to honor 9/11 first responders and victims. Visitors are invited to stop by Crunch on 9/11 to complete the Stair Climb Challenge to honor and remember those who lost their lives. Bill Spade, a retired New York City Fire Department firefighter and the sole survivor among the 12 members of FDNY Rescue Company 5 who responded that day, will share his experience and read the names of his fallen crew members. The observance also features the Coppell Fire and Police color guards and the Coppell Fire Department Bagpipe and Drum Corps, which will pay tribute to public safety agencies and military personnel. The Coppell Arts Center will present Behind the Lines: A 9/11 Story. Performances will take place at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. Fort Worth The City of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Police Department will host a 9/11 memorial event at 7:15 a.m. on the back porch of Fort Worth City Hall, located at 100 Fort Worth Trail. In addition to the memorial ceremony, visitors will have an opportunity to meet individuals who were boots on the ground during 9/11. The event will feature a virtual reality experience, a memorial display, a photo gallery, a QA with first responders about their jobs and what that day might have been like for emergency workers, 3D-printed World Trade Center towers, and a reading of victims’ names. Plano On the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Baylor Scott White Medical Center – Plano will host the Second Annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Sendoff on Friday, Sept. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Healing Garden at the hospital’s main entrance. The event honors the sacrifice and service of firefighters while recognizing local Pipe Drum Corps members as they depart for Colorado to participate in the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial events, a trip sponsored by Baylor Scott White – Plano. Pipe Drum Corps from several North Texas fire departments are expected to join this tribute. At noon, the combined Pipe Drum Corps will march through the Healing Garden and pass a temporary display of 343 American flags erected by hospital team members, each representing a firefighter who lost their life on Sept. 11, 2001. The procession will culminate in a special performance near the hospital entrance.
