Police arrest 2 teens in Antioch jewelry store robbery

(KRON) -- Two Antioch teenagers accused of pepper-spraying a jewelry store owner while stealing a significant amount of merchandise have been located and arrested, police said Thursday.
On Aug. 31, the suspects entered Antioch Jewelers on Hillcrest Avenue and used a hammer to smash a display case a
nd steal jewelry, according to the Antioch Police Department. While fleeing in a getaway vehicle, authorities said a witness noted the license plate number and provided it to investigating officers.
The suspect vehicle was found through the use of automated license plate reader cameras and seized as evidence.

Detectives identified the two suspects as 18-year-old Adrian Cortez and 18-year-old Zaimarri Williams. Cortez was located by police in Antioch one day after the jewelry store robbery and arrested. Williams was arrested on Thursday during the execution of a search warrant at his residence.
“Officers recovered a significant amount of jewelry that was later identified as property stolen during the robbery,” Antioch PD wrote. “A concealed .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun was also recovered from Cortez following his arrest.”
Cortez and Williams remain in custody as of Friday morning with bail for each suspect set at $100,000. Cortez is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 16. No court date has been set for Williams.
