RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond officials will host a 9/11 commemorative ceremony, stair climb and blood drive at Richmond City Hall on Friday. According to a release from city officials, Richmond's events plan to mark the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, by honoring the lives lost in the atta cks and the first responders and service members who served afterwards. Richmond will welcome Virginia State Police (VSP) Sergeant Middleton -- one of the first responders on scene at the Pentagon -- to offer reflections during the ceremony, the release said.  The events will begin outside City Hall at 8:05 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, according to officials. A moment of silence will take place at 8:46 a.m., followed by the stair climb at 9 a.m. and blood drive at 10 a.m. "The City Hall 9/11 Ceremonial Stair Climb reflects the physical and emotional commitment firefighters made on September 11, 2001," city officials said in the release. "Through the symbolic climb, Richmond honors the victims, first responders, and service members who lost their lives or served in the aftermath." Giving blood will honor the service shown on 9/11 and support those who need lifesaving care, the release said.
