A Philadelphia man will serve 11 years in prison for breaking into tractor trailers and stealing their cargo, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Haneef Palmer, aka “Lew,” 33, pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy, robbery interfering with interstate commerce, possession of item from interstate shipment theft and other related offenses. Palmer worked with a group of people to steal from various tractor trailers between Jan. 1, 2023, and July, 31, 2024, throughout the city of Philadelphia. Officials said that whenever a trailer was left unattended or a driver was sleeping, the group would break into the trailer using bolt cutters and steal whatever was inside. The group would then sell the items they stole. Palmer also admitted to other crimes including stealing refrigerators on April 1, 2023, and attacking the cargo driver. He also admitted to stealing over $230,000 in U.S. dimes on April 13, 2023. In all, officials said the robbery group stole over $1.5 million in goods from at least 10 victims. Palmer was sentenced to serve 11 years in prison, three years of supervised release and $1,080,786.44 in restitution. ...read more read less
