(KRON) -- A man was arrested three weeks after he allegedly crashed his vehicle into a 64-year-old bicyclist in Livermore and fled the scene without stopping, police announced Tuesday. The bicyclist suffered more than a dozen fractures and a brain injury in the August hit-and-run crash, according to the victim’s family. Police arrested the suspect, 44-year-old Brian Callaway, on Saturday at his Modesto home. He has been charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury, court records show. The charge carries an enhancement for a circumstance involving a vulnerable victim. The collision occurred before 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15. Livermore Police Department officers found the bicyclist lying unconscious in the bike lane of southbound Isabel Avenue, south of the Stanley Boulevard connector. Woman seriously injured in Tenderloin dog attack Tuesday morning In a statement released by the bicyclist's family and attorneys on Friday, they said the victim was placed in a medically induced coma when he arrived at the hospital. “He remains in critical care at a local hospital with over 17 fractures and has already endured an unimaginably difficult fight. He also sustained a traumatic brain injury, making his recovery even more complicated and uncertain,” family wrote.
