Just ask the supporters of General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) throughout South Florida who participated in a fundraiser coordinated by the GFWC Doral West Dade Woman’s Club on August 22. This fundraiser for the club’s charitable outreach marked its second party-bus trip to South Florida PBS headquarters in Boynton Beach. While the first trip in April featured the Titanic Experience, this excursion transported guests back in time with The Colosseum and Napoleon VR Experiences. Leaving from Doral, VIP guests were entertained aboard the bus by Vivo Sports Social’s Steven Bradley, whom many know from Gringo Bingo. Assisting Steven and this writer was club member and Birdie Bistro owner Rita Tennyson, who donated delicious charcuterie boxes for the trip north. Mayra Rossi of Coral Gables Dental Arts provided gift bags for everyone. The spectacular VR Experiences presented by South Florida PBS are truly unique. SFLPBS always finds ways not only to entertain guests but also to educate them—and it does both exceptionally well. Upon arrival, SFLPBS Chief of Marketing and Education Jeneissy Azcuy welcomed guests to the VIP event, where they enjoyed drinks and an opportunity to shop before entering the experiences that wowed everyone. On the trip home, Birdie Bistro provided a delicious meal while guests participated in Colosseum and Napoleon trivia games filled with prizes and plenty of laughter. Among the many enjoying the day with this writer were Miami-Dade County Commissioner J.C. Bermudez and his wife, Vivian; GFWC District 11 Director Shirley Pardon; Past District 11 Director Noreen Timoney; DWDWC Treasurer Stacy Alonso; Coral Gables Dental Arts’ Dr. Jose Chaviano and his fiancée, Vanessa Montero; Lorraine Sheldon; Arely Ruiz; Yolanda Woodbridge; Dr. Jaime Franco; Coral Gables Chamber Vice President Gloria Baez; Christina and Mike Roche; and Olga Olivera. Many who attended the trip have already made reservations for the newest experience, Moonwalkers, featuring Tom Hanks, which launches September 23. Imagine yourself walking on the moon! Look for more on this after this writer has had an opportunity to attend. It promises to be another not-to-be-missed experience. On the topic of world changing events, members of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables were treated to an amazing talk by Dr. Eduardo Zayas-Bazan who co authored The Flying Fish with Robert Higgs. The protagonist in the novel is based on Dr. Zayas-Bazan and covers the years leading up to the invasion and all the reasons it ultimately failed.
