Mandatory water conservation order issued in parts of Chester, Lancaster counties
Sep 06, 2026
A mandatory water conservation order is in effect for about 23,000 Pennsylvania American Water customers in parts of Chester and Lancaster counties.
Pennsylvania American Water issued the order Sunday morning for customers in its Coatesville water system. Customers are being asked to temporarily
limit water use to essential purposes and reduce usage by 10% to 15%.
In Chester County, the order affects the city of Coatesville; Atglen, Parkesburg and South Coatesville boroughs; and Caln, East Fallowfield, Highland, Valley, West Brandywine and West Sadsbury townships.
In Lancaster County, the order affects Christiana and Quarryville boroughs and Bart, Colerain, Eden and Sadsbury townships.
Officials said recent weather-related changes in local water sources have increased the amount of treatment required at the plant. The changes are placing additional demand on filtration systems and temporarily reducing treatment capacity.
