HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico County has confirmed its ninth rabies case so far this year after two dogs might have come into contact with a rabid raccoon. According to the Henrico County Police Division, officers responded to the 800 block of Dirk Drive on Sunday, Aug. 30, for a report of a potential rabies exposure involving two dogs and a raccoon. The raccoon later tested positive for rabies. Police said the dogs will be quarantined on the owner's property. They confirmed no additional animal or human exposures. "The Henrico Police Animal Protection Unit reminds everyone to keep their pets’ rabiesvaccinations current to ensure the safety of their pets and our community," police said in a release. Henrico Police holds rabies vaccination clinics twice a year. The next 2026 clinic will take place on Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Western Henrico Government Center, 4301 E. Parham Road.
