Tommy Banfield passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on September 2, 2026. He was born in Berlin, Vt., on August 26, 1937, to Sydney and Irma Banfield. He attended school in Riverton and graduated from Montpelier High School. He married Althea
Jewett on September 10, 1958, at the home of Reverend Arthur Hewitt.
Tom worked at IBM as a department lead technician for 22 years. During his IBM career, he received multiple suggestion awards and was president of the IBM Club.
Tom loved all things outdoors — fishing, hunting, golfing. He was a passionate bowler, as well. He lived by the motto, “I did it my way.”
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Sydney and Irma Banfield; brother, George Banfield; and sister, Constance Ann Salvas.
Tom is survived by his wife of 68 years, Althea Banfield; his four children, Kevin Banfield (Nancy), Shari Banfield (Wayne), Lisa Banfield Hoffmann (Steve) and Syd Banfield (Kathy); seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family of Tom Banfield wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Jennifer Gilwee, Dr. Waqar Waheed and all the wonderful caregivers at the McClure Miller Respite House.
There will be a private burial at Mount Hope Cemetery in Northfield, Vt.
Donations may be made to the American Diabetic Association; McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, Vt,; or the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA).
