Raley’s set to close several underperforming stores in Bay Area and Nevada

BRENTWOOD, Calif. (KRON) — A Raley’s grocery store in Brentwood is one of several that's set to close in the coming months, KRON4 News has confirmed. The Raley’s is located off Highway 4 in the Diablo Estates area.
On Thursday, KRON4 spoke with customers who shop at the store about the upcomi
ng closure and what it could mean for the community.
“I’m sad. I hope something will open quickly and employ people…” said Judy, a Raley's customer.

The Raley's is closing on Nov. 3, a store associate said.
Edward Balbiani, a Brentwood resident, said friends first told him about the closure about two weeks ago. Balbiani moved to Brentwood in 2016 after living in the Fremont area for more than 30 years.
“And then when I went into the store today, I just verified with one of the store employees that it was closing,” he told KRON4.
Balbiani said he is particularly concerned about the employees who could lose their jobs.

“Just feel for the employees more than anything because it's more people losing their job. From my understanding, it's an underperforming store and probably maybe the lease is up, and the cost of renewing doesn’t make sense," Balbiani said. "I know it’s a business decision; it’s unfortunate that people have to get caught in the middle of it. The good thing is they still have a store in Oakley, which is about five miles away.”
Other Brentwood residents, including Judy and Darrell Allen, said they were sad to see the store close but were not surprised by the news.
“Every time I’ve gone here, there is hardly any people,” Judy said. “I’m closer to the big Safeway, which is fairly new.”
Allen said Raley’s is not his primary grocery store and that he typically shops at Safeway or WinCo.
“It's not my main spot. I either go to Safeway or WinCo. When you mention it, every time I do come here, the lines are always empty, it's hardly anyone in here," said Allen.
Allen also said prices at this Raley’s are higher than some of its competitors, so he typically stops in for only a few items.
Still, he said the store’s location was convenient for local residents.
Judy said she hopes another grocery store eventually replaces Raley’s at the location, but there is one particular chain she does not want to see move in.
“I don’t want Whole Foods..." said Judy.
The Brentwood Raley's is one of four locations set to close in the coming months. According to a representative for the company, the following stores will be closing:
Raley’s at 3400 Sand Creek Rd. in Brentwood, CA, will close November 3, 2026
Raley's at 2505 Mountain City Hwy. in Elko, NV, will close December 8, 2026
Raley’s at 157 N. McDowell Blvd. in Petaluma, CA, will close January 26, 2027
Nob Hill at 15710 Los Gatos Blvd. in Los Gatos, CA , will close end of June 2027
A Raley's spokesperson told KRON4 there were a "variety of factors" behind the closures, "including local market conditions and the long-term financial sustainability of these locations."
"We continually evaluate where we can best invest to serve our communities, support our team members, and strengthen our business," Raley's told KRON4. "Thoughtful stewardship sometimes means opening stores, and sometimes it means making difficult decisions to close them."
"Our focus now is on supporting team members, customers, and communities throughout the transition," Raley's said.
