Airfare purchased today puts a round-trip United Airlines basic economy ticket from San Francisco International Airport to Melbourne at just over $2,150. The nonstop outbound flight takes about 16 hours, so the journey requires some endurance. The hotel offers the budget a breather. A quoted rate of $138 a night at the Melbourne Marriott Hotel works out to $276 for two nights. Marriott describes the downtown property as a five-star hotel, giving fans somewhere comfortable to recover from the flight. Then comes the seat that matters most: the one inside the stadium. The lowest Ticketmaster price in our search was $467.50, with the next option at $560. The search showed about 170 tickets available when it was checked, although availability can change. The MCG itself has a capacity of 100,024, including standing room, providing a massive stage for this California rivalry. Getting from the hotel to the stadium adds another $23.50 each way for the roughly 1.1-mile trip. That's $47 for two Uber rides, or fans could walk the route in an estimated 25 minutes each way. After 16 hours in an airplane seat, stretching your legs might be the easiest budget decision of the trip.
