RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Wiener wiener chicken dinner! Richmond's annual dachshund dog racing will return next month with exciting races, prizes and a local dog influencer. Dachtoberfest will once again bring costume contests, raffles, food trucks and guest speakers to the Richmond Raceway Complex for the fifth year. Organized by the Dachshund Enlightenment Foundation, a nonprofit focused on the breed's education, health and care, the event will feature local dog influencer Ollie for a meet-and-greet. Ollie, whose social media handle is @ByGollyMisterOllie, is known for his big "satellite ears." He has over 146,000 Instagram followers. Attendees can also enjoy a variety of celebratory activities throughout the day, including a dachshund-themed birthday party photo area celebrating the organization's ambassadors Ludwig and Wilhelm's birthday. Dachtoberfest will also feature a pet food drive for local shelters. The first 50 people who donate will receive a $10-value party favor pack that includes a drawstring backpack, commemorative sticker, silicone bracelet, roll of poop bags and pen. Dachshunds attending the event can compete in one of four divisions: Senior schnitzel for those 9 years old and over Special sausages for special needs dachshunds Bratwurst for those between 2 and 8 years old Little links for those under 2 years old Dogs of all breeds are welcome to compete in one of five costume contest categories: Dapper Dog: Classy, stylish male dog Doggie Diva: Fancy, elaborate female dog Halloweenie Hound: Spooky, scary, seasonal Party Animal: Fun, wild, zany party attire Best Pack: Group, for human and dog or multiple dogs Those interested in competing can register for the costume contest for free.
