INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — During Thursday’s practice, Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced five team captains for the 2026-2027 season. Safety Cam Bynum, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, quarterback Daniel Jones, running back Jonathan Taylor, and guard Quenton Nelson have all been vote d as team captains for this season. “As far as captains, we voted on captains,” Steichen said. “DeForest Buckner will be a captain, Cam Bynum, Quenton Nelson, Jonathan Taylor, and Daniel Jones. We’re really excited for those guys. I think a captain is one of the biggest honors in the National Football League, so to be named a captain by your teammates, they trust you to uphold the standard every day. Excited for those guys.” Quarterback Daniel Jones Daniel Jones is one of the Colts’ team captains for the second year in a row and the eighth time total. Jones was named a captain six times with the New York Giants from 2019-2024 before coming to Indianapolis in March 2025. Last season, Jones helped lead the Colts to an 8-2 start and even joined the MVP conversation through the first half of the season. After tearing his Achilles in Week 14 of last season, Jones said his goal was to be back practicing by the start of training camp, and he achieved it. The 29-year-old quarterback is proud to represent the Colts as one of five team captains. “I think it feels different just from being here and being around these guys,” Jones said. “A real honor to be selected captain and very grateful to be chosen, so I understand the responsibility of that and what it means to be a captain of this football team and what the expectations and standards are. But it does feel a little bit different, just having more relationships and being around the guys more.” Guard Quenton Nelson Quenton Nelson has been part of the Colts’ identity since being drafted by the team with the sixth overall pick in 2018. Nelson is entering his eighth season with the Colts, and this is the sixth time he’s been named a team captain. Nelson has been selected to the Pro Bowl in every season he’s played in the NFL, as well as having six All-Pro selections. Running back Jonathan Taylor. Jonathan Taylor has also been a core piece of the Colts’ offense since being drafted from Wisconsin in 2020. Taylor has been named as a team captain three times: 2022, 2024, and now 2026. Taylor’s led the NFL in touchdowns last season after rushing for 1,585 yards with 20 total touchdowns. He’s reached over 1,000 rushing yards four times throughout his six-year career. Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner Veteran defensive lineman DeForest Buckner returns for his seventh season with the Colts and has been named a team captain for the sixth straight. Buckner is 32 years old and is back healthy this year after enduring a season-ending neck injury he suffered late last season. Safety Cam Bynum Safety Cam Bynum is entering his second year with the Colts and has been named a team captain for the first time with the horseshoe. Bynum will have added responsibility this season as he will wear the green dot on defense for the first time in his young career. Bynum recorded 81 tackles with four interceptions last season, and he’s entering his sixth year in the NFL.
