Videos showed several Good Samaritans rescue a woman who was trapped underneath a car after being struck by the vehicle while riding an e-bike in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania. The crash and rescue occurred on Monday, Aug. 31, around 9:30 a.m. along 11th Street and Lincoln Avenue. Police said a wom an was riding an e-bike between cars and the sidewalk when she was struck by a blue Volkswagen as it turned on 11th Street. Surveillance video obtained by NBC10 shows the woman falling to the ground before the car runs her over, trapping her underneath. The surveillance video as well as police body worn camera video show several citizens as well as an officer rush over to the vehicle, lift up the car and pull the woman to safety. “Once I heard her scream, ‘Help,’ I just ran outside, tried to lift up the car by myself,” Amelia Cannon, one of the rescuers, told NBC10. “Other neighbors came out and they lifted the car up and we just dragged her from under the car.” NBC10 learned the woman was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. The driver of the vehicle also remained at the scene. “All too often we’re pointing out people’s mistakes and not really giving people a fair shake and here, we have true heroes who definitely helped this woman in a time of need,” Prospect Park Police Chief David Madonna said. As police across several towns across the region call for more state regulations on e-bikes, investigators said the video of Monday’s incident made it clear that the driver of the car didn’t do anything wrong. Police don’t believe the driver will face any charges but said the e-bike rider could potentially face fines for traffic violations. “I think our laws need to catch up with the technology,” Chief Madonna said. “And I think we need to have a clear understanding of what these vehicles are capable of and what they can do to a person.
