In the Aug. 26-28 edition of The Park Record, Don Rogers, editor and publisher, made a point of quoting a comment made by Myles Rademan, to wit: “I was talking to some of our council members and said, ‘Whatever you do, 50% of the people are going to hate you. If you do the other thing, 50% o f the people are going to hate you.'”   It’s pretty obvious that Don was referring to the 5-acre Bonanza Park mixed-use project. Based on the overwhelming number of letters written in opposition to the current plan, the 2,399 signatures on the petition opposing it, and the lopsided opposing attendance at City Council and Planning Commission meetings, I would take issue with the advice about there being a 50/50 split on the issue.   I would also disagree with the assertion that of those that support the project as it is currently proposed — whatever percentage that is — they would “hate” the council members if they chose to make the property a park.   But that’s just my opinion. The City Council members didn’t ask for my advice but here’s a novel idea: Let’s have a referendum on the November ballot and put it to a vote of the very people the council is supposed to represent. Whatever the results, I promise I won’t hate the city councilors if they simply abide by the outcome of that vote.
