Firefighters are responding to a wildfire burning near Yosemite National Park in Mariposa County. The Colorado Fire, which started Tuesday near Highway 140 and Colorado Road, has burned 250 acres in the Midpines area and remains at zero percent containment, according to Cal Fire. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire was moving at a moderate rate of spread toward the Merced River drainage. A total of 126 personnel from the Cal Fire Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit are deployed to the incident, supported by 14 fire engines, four helicopters, three water tenders, two bulldozers, and three hand crews. Numerous air tankers from across the state are also making fire suppression runs as weather conditions allow. Crews are attempting to construct control lines to hold the flames north of Colorado Road, east of Telegraph Road, west of Buffalo Road, and south of the Merced River. Colorado Fire prompts evacuation orders in Mariposa County Emergency officials have issued mandatory evacuation orders and warnings for several zones in Mariposa County due to the immediate and potential threats to life and property: Evacuation Orders: Issued for zones Mariposa 546, 548, and 549. Residents in these areas are lawfully ordered to leave immediately. Evacuation Warnings: Issued for zone Mariposa 547. Those who require extra time to evacuate or have pets and livestock are advised to leave now. An evacuation shelter for residents and small animals has been established at New Life Christian Church, located at 5089 Cole Road in Mariposa. County officials have set up accommodation for large animals at multiple facilities and can be reached for arrangements at 209-967-3615. Road closures in effect due to Colorado Fire near Yosemite Road closures remain in effect, including state Route 140 from Briceburg to the Bug Hostel.
