Pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle in South San Jose

A male pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a vehicle Monday night in San Jose, police said.
San Jose police officers responded at approximately 8:08 p.m. on Aug. 31 to reports of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision near Vistapark Drive and Royale Park Drive, according to the San Jose Po
lice Department.
A preliminary investigation found that a woman behind the wheel of a tan 2000 Mercedes sedan was traveling southbound on Vistapark Drive passing Royale Park Drive. The vehicle struck a man who was crossing Vistapark Drive eastbound outside of any marked crosswalk.
The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, the department reported.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, according to investigators.
The death marks San Jose’s 31st traffic-related fatality and 31st fatal collision of 2026, as well as the city’s 16th pedestrian death of the year, police said.
The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner will release the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
