The Town of Cutler Bay will conduct a municipal election on Nov. 3. This year will be significant because some members of the council have termed out and cannot run again for their current positions. Incumbent Mayor Tim Meerbott is termed out; incumbent Seat 1 Councilmember Robert “BJ” Duncan is termed out, but incumbent Seat 3 Councilmember Richard M. Ramirez is eligible to run for reelection. There are nine candidates running to fill the soon-to-be-vacant seats and the one that’s still available for a second term. Candidates for mayor: Robert “BJ” Duncan – his campaign website is www.bjd.vote. Ricardo De Melo Gomes – his campaign website is Ricardo4Mayor.com. Suzy Lord – her campaign website is www.suzylordformayor.com. Clint Rodriguez – does not yet have a website. For Town Council, Seat 1: Ricky Fernandez James Richie Hawkins Mary Ann Mixon For Town Council, Seat 3: Rene Gomez Richard Ramirez (incumbent) The town is divided into three residential districts. One councilmember must reside in each of the three districts. Candidates for mayor and vice mayor may reside in any area of the town. To be a candidate for a seat the person must have resided in the residential district continuously for a period of one year preceding the qualifying date. The qualifying period for this year began at noon on July 23 and ended at noon on Aug. 6. The Qualifying Fee was $100 (paid by campaign account).
