Another person is now behind bars for making threats toward witnesses tied to the Nolan Wells’ case as the investigation stretches into its second month. Brandon Ephriam Washington, 30, of Jacksonville, Florida is accused of threatening to kill or injure Bart Edmiston, Jr. Washington was ar rested Aug. 12, according to court records obtained by the Sun Herald. He is also banned from direct and indirect contact with Edmiston without an attorney present. Edmiston, 21, is a punter at the University of Wyoming and was a friend of Wells. He was on Horn Island with Wells the day he disappeared. Edmiston’s name appeared in a Mississippi Department of Marine Resources incident report after he helped tow the boat that Wells and his friends had taken to the island. The group called Sea Tow, a membership-based marine assistance company, after a malfunctioning bilge pump left their vessel disabled. The friends ultimately canceled the Sea Tow request after Edmiston was able to tow their boat a short distance. Since that report became public, Edmiston and his father allegedly received threatening phone calls and text messages, including communications from Washington. Attorney Russell Latino, who is representing the Edmiston family, confirmed Washington’s arrest to the Sun Herald. Others Arrested for Threats Washington is the second person to be arrested for allegedly making threats toward Edmiston and his family. Edward James Porter, of Berwyn, Illinois, was indicted last week on a felony charge of interstate transmission of threatening communication. According to the indictment, obtained by Atlanta Black Star, Porter made phone calls to Edmiston threatening to kill him. “During the telephone calls to W-1, PORTER stated he was going to come and kill W-1, W-1’s family and that PORTR had W-1’s address,” his criminal complaint said. After the call, Porter allegedly sent a message with Edmiston’s address.  Porter then allegedly took his threats to Edmiston’s father. “PORTER informed W-2 over the telephone that PORTER was going to come kill W-2, everyone in the home, PORTER would kill any cops, and W-2 [would] die.” The complaint adds that Porter further said he “was going to cut up W-2 and put W-2 into a suitcase.” Porter remains in jail without bond pending trial. Federal prosecutors have also charged Michelle Francine Edwards, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Authorities say she repeatedly called government offices in Mississippi making threats in July. Joseph Alfredo Vasquez Dumarce, of Sacramento, California, was also arrested for allegedly sending violent online threats to Jackson County Chancery Judge Ashlee Cole. Her stepson, Warren Hudson, was among the friends who accompanied Wells to Horn Island. Wells’ family has also received threats and hate mail. However, no one has been arrested. Two Months and No Answers Wells went missing on Horn Island while celebrating Fourth of July with friends. Two days later, authorities found the teen’s body off the northwest tip of the island. Nearly two months later, Wells’ family remains without answers. The family has retained civil rights attorney Ben Crump to head an independent investigation into the disappearance. The family subsequently commissioned an independent autopsy, but the forensic pathologist concluded the cause and manner of Wells’ death remain undetermined and inconclusive. The state also conducted an autopsy, but those results have not been made public. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the case. Their findings will be turned over to the DA’s office who will present the case to a grand jury. “I stand firmly on the rule of law and my ethical obligations. That is what the people of Jackson County elected me to do. I will present the Grand Jury with a thorough, complete, and fair investigation into the death of Nolan Wells,” said Jackson County District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath.
