The man accused of killing one person and injuring four others in a stabbing spree across Oakland is expected to appear before a judge Monday. Jose Rodriguez, 34, was scheduled to be arraigned Friday, but the hearing was postponed after he refused to get on a bus at Santa Rita Jail for the trip t o court in Oakland, according to Alameda County Superior Court. Rodriguez is accused of stabbing five people at several locations across Oakland last Monday. Police said the attacks began at Cesar Chavez Park and spanned about a mile through East Oakland. One of the victims, 58-year-old Gonzalo Lopez, died. His family said Lopez was going to get his bicycle fixed when he was killed in what they believe was a random attack. Rodriguez has a lengthy criminal history, including a conviction stemming from a 2019 stabbing spree in which he stabbed an Uber driver and a garbage collector. He was eventually released on parole, but court records show he repeatedly violated his parole. Those violations include an arrest in June 2025 for assault and violating a criminal protective order filed by his father.
