A historically bad PR week for the San Francisco 49ers continued Friday as newly-published public records reveal that team officials repeatedly sought to obtain head coach Kyle Shanahan's police report from Palo Alto authorities for 11 days before disclosing news of his car crash to media outlets.To day, the Mercury News reports that during that nearly two-week gap in July, 49ers team officials reached out multiple times to Palo Alto police with requests to review Shanahan's collision report. While the records confirm that the team apparently has direct access to police officials, they also show local law enforcement ultimately took more than a week before finally providing the 49ers with the requested material.As SFist previously reported, the public was first made aware last month that Shanahan had been involved in a two-car collision near his Palo Alto home. Given the news arrived 11 days after the incident transpired, questions surrounding the timeline of the team's disclosure of the news quickly emerged. As a result of the crash, Shanahan suffered a severe concussion, a broken nose, and fractured ribs among other injuries. Subsequent, SFist recapped Shanahan's press conference where he took responsibility for the incident, stating that he accidentally veered into oncoming traffic and hit another driver after taking his eyes off the road while his Tesla was engaged in autopilot mode.Initial confusion over the crash also stemmed from what Palo Alto police stated was a clerical error that mistakenly briefly listed the other driver, a 21-year-old woman, as the party at fault. This latest update to Shanahan's car crash saga follows a jam-packed week of not-so-great news for the San Francisco 49ers, who will face the Los Angeles Rams in their season opener in Melbourne, Australia on September 10. On Monday, SFist reported that San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested as part of a prostitution sting at a trailer park in East Palestine, Ohio.
