The San Francisco Giants added major Pokémon flair to their game Thursday night to welcome in the tens of thousands of fans in town for one of the world’s biggest Pokémon events. Around 50 thousand fans from around the world are expected in San Francisco Friday through Sunday for the Pokémo n World Championships and Fan Convention. Just before all the official Pokémon World festivities kicked off, the Giants encouraged visitors to attend their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with special features like  Pokémon Giants’ jerseys for fans and in-app collectible Pikachus. “We’re coming here for the Pokémon World Championships, I’m competing tomorrow,” said Francisco Alca, who was visiting from Peru. Alca, who was wearing one of the Giants’ Pokémon jerseys, said he had never been to a baseball game before and was excited to learn more about the sport. The Giants said this game was sold out at 40,120 fans. While the crowd was filled with lots of orange and black as usual, plenty of people were sporting Pikachu ears this time, too. “I think the community aspect is just on another level because you’ve got baseball games and Pokémon fans all together,” said Daniel Amos, a Pokémon streamer visiting San Francisco from Australia. The game concluded with a drone show over McCovey Cove, with illuminated drones forming Pokémon characters in the night sky. The combination of Pokémon Go and baseball seems to be working. Other MLB teams are also hosting similar Pokémon nights this year. In San Francisco, the Pokémon Fan Experience begins Friday at Moscone Center.
