Woman charged after brandishing firearm at middle school

MINT HILL, N.C. – The Mint Hill Police responded to an alleged road rage incident involving a firearm on school property.
A officer with the Mint Hill Police Department was approached by the victim while directing traffic near Mint Hill Middle School. The victim reported that she was being foll
owed by a female who displayed a firearm. Officers located the suspect’s vehicle and began their investigation.
Officers determined that the incident occurred on Mint Hill Middle school property while students were being dropped off. The incident continued off school property and the suspect was accused of brandishing a firearm while following her and using threatening gestures. It was concluded that the altercation was verbal and the weapon was not displayed while on school grounds.
The firearm was located by officers inside the suspect’s vehicle and determined that it was brought to school grounds during student drop-off.
Jodie Rinehart, 37, was charged with felony possession of a weapon on campus or other educational property and communicating threats.
No other passengers were present at the time of the arrest.
