I thought we already helped her get out of conservatorship,” a fourth asked. That last commenter was not alone in being confused. Williams remains under the court-ordered guardianship established in May 2022. The arrangement stemmed from concerns raised by Wells Fargo that she was at risk of financial exploitation. Attorney Sabrina E. Morrissey was appointed to oversee her affairs. Williams was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in 2023. However, she has repeatedly disputed allegations that she is incapacitated, even comparing her assisted-living facility to a “luxury prison.” In 2025, a massive campaign surged across platforms like TMZ, The Breakfast Club, and Don Lemon’s show, with fans and media figures rallying around a #FreeWendy movement to push for her release from guardianship. The Neighborhood Talk’s followers turned its comment section into a digital prayer circle with a side of righteous outrage. “Prayers way up to WENDY…God wrap your hands around her,” one supporter wrote. “Lmaooo Wendy is fed UP,” another said. “I feel like there’s a bigger meaning to this… the industry is scary. Praying for her,” a third added. “FREE HER. we ain’t forgot you, Auntie Wendy,” someone demanded. Another person offered a sobering thought: “As I get older, I’m glad I’m not famous. Her legal efforts to dissolve the guardianship have not succeeded. The arrangement was upheld in August 2025 following a court-ordered medical evaluation.
