From one-night collabs at Jue Let to Pullman Market shelves, it seems Dorp Creamery is almost everywhere in San Antonio these days — except at a permanent brick-and-mortar. That’s about to change. The buzzy ice cream brand is opening its first shop at 1515 N. St Mary’s St. across from the upco ming Jones Ave. development.The location might be familiar to long-time fans. In summer 2025, the brand scooped its ice creams out of a food truck in front of the building. Dorp says it hopes to have the location open by December or January and is looking for another tenant to help fill out the large space.New York transplant Mike Chue founded the brand in 2024 after noticing a lack of Asian-inspired ice cream in the Alamo City. He borrowed the name of his childhood Staten Island neighborhood, named after the Dutch word for “village” by its New Netherland colonists.Chue takes the conceit to heart, imagining Dorp as a modern-day village that builds community over frosty treats.The rotating flavors are East Asian, although Dorp doesn’t place its pin on any one map. The offerings can include Vietnamese coffee, Thai sticky mango rice, or chocolate made with Japanese hojicha tea. All are made from a custard base that is aged 12 hours before churning to ensure a smoother, creamier scoop.San Antonians won’t have to wait until the end of the year, however, to try an ice cream “bouquet.” Dorp’s flavors are currently scooped at the SA Yacht Club, squeezed into sandwiches at Best Quality Daughter, and packed into pints at Pearl’s Pullman Market. ...read more read less
