Fans around the world are mourning the passing of Dolly Parton. Even President Donald Trump offered condolences to the music legend. Before she died on Aug. 25 at 80 years old, Parton rose to global superstardom as both a recording artist and actress. She left an undeniable legacy worth celebrati ng.  But that’s not the response from Ivanka Trump when she shared what critics viewed as a tone-deaf tribute following the singer’s death. The president referred to the “Jolene” performer as one of the greatest country singers. “This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will,” the former reality television star stated on Truth Social. Trump also added, “In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one-week period beginning tonight at 6:00 PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The world loves you.” In addition to the polarizing POTUS, his oldest daughter, Ivanka, also offered her thoughts on Parton in a 90-word eulogy shared on X. The New York City-raised socialite also praised Parton poetically as an “American icon” whose words about acceptance were “profound and deeply moving beneath the surface.” “Goodbye to a bright light. A peerless singer, incredible songwriter, gifted comic actress, tireless philanthropist, accomplished businesswoman and true original. We never met but I adored and admired Dolly greatly.” That statement fueled immediate complaints of hypocrisy. While the president showed grace toward the late Dollywood founder, his previous track record of publicly degrading deceased public figures was not ignored. Filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, were brutally killed in December 2025. Trump responded by saying the famed director, who was a vocal critic of the president, is a “deranged person.”  Former FBI Director and later special counsel Robert Mueller, who led the DOJ investigation into possible Russian interference in the 2016 election during Trump’s first term, on was an additional postmortem target of the president. The MAGA boss gleefully celebrated his fellow Republican losing his life in March 2026. With that unforgettable history of Trump insulting the recently departed, Ivanka was denounced for her dad’s sins. Social media users flooded the first daughter’s mentions to blast her for lauding Parton’s kindness in the wake of her own father’s appalling behavior. “She was what you will never be. Dolly was a very authentic and philanthropic person. She gave so much to her community and the world. You and your family are corrupt grifters who are destroying our country,” a person on X posted. A second commenter called out Ivanka by writing, “Shame your dad didn’t take her advice.” One sarcastic tweet read, “Love and acceptance, definitely the Trump family brand.” The vitriol directed at the Trumps continued when a Parton fan replied, “Then maybe learn from her? Care about others a bit? Clearly you didn’t learn that from your dad.” Dolly Parton was asked about avoiding politics: “You’ll find me and my opinions in a lot of my songs. But most of it is based on love, acceptance and lifting people up. Hypocrite, thy name is Trump,” declared another faultfinder, borrowing a line from William Shakespeare.  “And Dolly hated everything you and your disgusting family stand for, so you might want to sit this one out, Babe,” someone on the app advised. Many Parton supporters were outraged by Ivanka commandeering the singer’s emphasis on compassion, but her father still claimed Dolly as part of his tribe. The president had more to say about Parton during an Aug. 26 phone interview on conservative commentator Glenn Beck’s radio show. She really liked me,” Trump insisted before going on to suggest that Parton kept her political leanings quiet so as not to alienate part of her fan base.  Trump’s assessment about Parton does seem to have merit.
