The Eagles Hall of Fame selection for 2026 never made a tackle, never caught a pass, never scored a touchdown. The Eagles announced Wednesday that Jeff Lurie, who bought the Eagles in 1994, is this year’s inductee. He’ll become the first Eagles owner inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame sinc e Eagles founder Bert Bell, who owned the team from 1933 through 1940, was enshrined in 1963. Lurie bought the Eagles from Norman Braman for $185 million in the spring of 1994. The team is now worth an estimated about $8.3 billion, according to Forbes. The Eagles had reached one Super Bowl without a win when he bought the team. Under his stewardship, they’ve reached four more and won two. “Being selected to the Eagles Hall of Fame is one of the greatest honors of my life,” Lurie said in a statement. “It is truly rewarding to know that I will now join a distinguished group of legends who have all made significant contributions to this organization.  “From the very moment I became owner, I have been deeply committed to delivering a champion – both on and off the field – that our fans and city can be proud of. This franchise has given so much to me and my family over the past 32 years, and for that, I will be forever grateful. I would like to thank the selection committee for their support and am humbled that they felt I was deserving of this recognition.” Lurie has overseen the most successful periods in Eagles history. Since 1995, his first full year of ownership, the Eagles have a .576 winning percentage, 5th-highest in the NFL. They’ve reached four Super Bowls under Lurie, and only the Patriots and Chiefs, have reached more since 1995. Only the Chiefs, Patriots and Broncos have won more Super Bowls since 1995 than the Eagles won.  They’ve won 21 playoff games under Lurie, 3rd-most in the NFL since 1995. They won 11 before he bought the team. The Eagles hadn’t won a championship since 1960 or reached a Super Bowl since 1980 when Lurie took over. Every coach Lurie has hired – Ray Rhodes, Andy Reid, Chip Kelly, Doug Pederson and Nick Sirianni – either won a Super Bowl or was named Coach of the Year.  Lurie is the sixth Hall of Fame inductee who wasn’t either a coach or player, joining Bell, long-time front-office executives Jim Gallagher (1949-95) and Leo Carlin (1960-2015), long-time trainer Otho Davis (1973-95) and legendary radio voice Merrill Reese, now in his 50th season behind the mic. “Jeffrey’s legacy and relentless dedication to this team are the reasons why we – the selection committee – felt it was important to recognize him with the organization’s highest honor,” said Eagles Hall of Famer Ron Jaworski, a member of the selection committee. “Among Jeffrey’s many qualities, it is his unique ability to lead others that has allowed this team to have sustained success over a long period of time.” In 31 years under Lurie, the Eagles have had just eight losing seasons. Since 2000, only the Steelers have had fewer losing seasons.
