Aug. 26, 2026: BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) — An ICE agent charged in Minnesota with firing his gun through a house door, striking a man in his leg, and then lying to justify the shooting, could walk out of a South Texas jail if a federal judge does not intervene. Minnesota’s governor and attorney ge neral are asking a federal judge in South Texas to order the Texas governor to extradite Christian Castro, an ICE agent, to Minnesota. Texas law says he must be released after 90 days of detention, which is Thursday. Attorneys representing the Texas governor said the extradition request has not formally been denied and until the governor makes a decision, it’s too soon to involve the courts.   Aug. 19, 2026: ST. (AP) — Minnesota’s attorney general is suing the governor of Texas, asking a federal judge to compel the extradition of a federal immigration agent charged with wounding a man and then lying about it during an immigration crackdown in Minneapolis. Attorney General Keith Ellison says Texas Governor Greg Abbott has not signed papers to extradite Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Christian Castro since his arrest in Texas in May 2026. Under Texas law, the agent could be freed from jail next week if he’s not released to Minnesota authorities. Ellison says Abbott appears to be refusing to turn over the agent.
