Two Colorado State Patrol troopers were shot and wounded after a man opened fire during a traffic stop west of Woodland Park on Tuesday morning. Authorities shot and killed the suspect hours after he fled on foot. Watch News5's
latest coverage on the shooting below: The two troopers were able to drive themselves to a hospital for treatment, according to the Teller County Sheriff's Office. At this time, their names have not been released. One of the troopers has been released from the hospital, according to CSP. Officials provided updates on the incident Tuesday afternoon. You can watch the press conference in its entirety below:Authorities said the shooting happened around 7:15 a.m. on Highway 24 near Piney Point Lane. The suspect was driving a blue Subaru Impreza hatchback before fleeing the stop. Investigators have not said why the vehicle was stopped.After the shooting, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and was believed to be on foot in the Westwood Lakes and Woodland West areas. A shelter-in-place order was issued for the Westwood Lakes subdivision but was lifted shortly before 10 a.m. Hear from community members who live in the subdivision below:Investigators later confirmed the suspect was shot and killed. Investigators said the suspect was struck multiple times, but no additional details about the shooting were immediately released. Authorities have not revealed the suspects identity or possible motive.In a statement, Colorado Govenor Jared Polis said he was devastated by the shooting.
