Residents in southern Jack County are being told to evacuate due to the rapidly spreading Ross Fire. That order was issued just before 3 this morning. The evacuation order applies to the southern part of the county, near and east of Barton’s Chapel. FM 4 is currently closed. All residents a re being asked to evacuate using CR2210 to Hwy 281. An evacuation center has been set up at the Twin Lakes Recreation Center on Hwy 59 in Jacksboro. Jacksboro ISD announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday morning that the start of school would be delayed two hours out of an abundance of caution. In a separate Facebook post, Perrin CISD announced that at the request of the Jack County Emergency Management, school would be canceled on Tuesday due to the fast-moving wildfire. The Ross Fire started burning in Palo Pinto County yesterday afternoon. The Texas AM Forest Service says the fire is around 50,000 acres and is 5% contained. A voluntary evacuation was also issued in Palo Pinto County. That evacuation order applies to residents in the area north of Fortune Bend Road, extending north to Highway 16 North at FM 337.
