Residents in a Mesquite neighborhood spent most of the day without electricity – no air-conditioning or lights – after a transformer caught fire. Oncor reported the power was restored around 9:50 p.m. The area is near Terry Middle School, which actually had power as of 11 a.m. despite the out age. Oncor had been working throughout the day to resolve the issue and even tried rerouting power to affected homes. Neighbors told NBC 5 they were concerned about pet care, medical care, and the heat. “It’s about 80-something inside. I’ve got a couple of refrigerators going. I just plugged them into the back of the truck. So I’m just switching them around. So keep the food cold. I’ve gotta couple of animals, so keep them watered, keep them wet, wetted down, you know, get some fans, battery pack fans going on in the inside to keep them, get a breeze going,” Dan McNeeley said.
