At the TCU Burnett School of Medicine, first-year medical students settle in for their first class of the day. There are 62 first-year students, including Tatum Hall. The first year is full of firsts. Tatum is also a first. For four years of undergrad, Tatum was on the TCU Showgirls dance team. She is the first Showgirl alumna to enroll at the Burnett School of Medicine. “I’m really excited to start this journey,” Hall said. “Yeah, I’m excited to just honestly get a lot better at taking blood pressure. It’s a lot harder than I thought it would be.” “Throughout college, I really had to learn how to be like good at time management because I was a TCU showgirl and a biology major, so like that was already a big undertaking,” Hall said. It still is; when Tatum isn’t studying, she’s the showgirls’ game day coach. “So I just feel like throughout this year as a game day coach, just being able to just show them that you aren’t just confined to one little box,” Hall said. “Just show them that you really can reach for a really big dream of yours.” Boxes are for surgical masks, not dreams.
