A current member of the Lower Merion School Board was charged on Monday with stealing more than $50,000 from her former employer, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. According to prosecutors, 41-year-old Jennifer Rivera, of Bala Cynwyd, was arrested and faces multiple felonies for using a company credit car from SMB in Bala Cynwyd to pay for personal items such as a a vacation and clothing. In all, Rivera is accused of spending $25,000 on a vacation for her family and friends, as well as a $25,596.68 on clothing, prosecutors said. She also spent $1,339 on videography/photography services for a Bar Mitzvah, prosecutors said. Rivera also booked a future trip to the Bahamas using $9,000 in American Express points from the company card, prosecutors said. Rivera has been charged with four counts of theft by deception, along with one count of receiving stolen property and device fraud, prosecutors said. She was taken into custody on Monday, Aug. 24, and was then able to post her $25,000 bail, prosecutors said. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 2. According to the Lower Merion School District’s website, Rivera is the co-chair of the school board’s curriculum committee, and is also a member of the facilities and purchases committee.
