High school football was back in full force Friday night, with teams across the Chippewa Valley and western Wisconsin taking the field for another busy night of action. There were plenty of impressive performances, close games and dominant victories across the area, but the night also brought heartb reaking news following the Alma Center-Lincoln game. Friday Night Football Scores Baldwin-Woodville continued its strong start with a 48-19 victory over Tomah, while St. Croix Central suffered a heartbreaking 23-21 loss to Lakeside Lutheran. Webster shut out Independence-Gilmanton 39-0, and Abbotsford picked up a 21-8 win over Marathon. Arcadia dominated Blair-Taylor 52-0, while Edgar followed up on the matchup discussed earlier in the week with a 21-0 victory over Cadott. Shell Lake defeated Luck 52-22, Durand-Arkansas picked up a 36-15 win over Spring Valley, and Colfax defeated Augusta 38-8. Cameron and Barron put together one of the night’s more entertaining games, with Cameron coming away with a 42-34 victory. Alma Center-Lincoln defeated Turtle Lake 42-18, but the game was overshadowed by tragic news. Alma Center-Lincoln football player Adam Massman died from injuries he suffered during the game. The loss is a devastating one for his family, teammates, coaches, classmates and the entire Alma Center-Lincoln community. West Salem shut out Onalaska 28-0, Whitehall blanked Pittsville 40-0, and Clear Lake defeated Flambeau 35-16. Mondovi continued its strong play with a 41-6 victory over G.E.-T, while Thorp defeated New Auburn 26-6. Rice Lake fell to Marshfield 44-6, and Medford suffered a 21-14 loss to Holmen. Stanley-Boyd fell to Colby 39-22, while Gilman dominated Phillips 57-0 in eight-man football. Regis Rolls at Carson Park One of the local games that drew plenty of attention was at Carson Park, where Regis defeated McDonell Central 59-12. Elk Mound also picked up a convincing victory, defeating Spooner 43-14. Elsewhere, La Crosse Logan shut out Ellsworth 35-0, Osseo-Fairchild defeated Necedah 43-6, and Neillsville-Granton blanked New Lisbon 35-0. Chetek-Weyerhaeuser defeated Cumberland 15-6, Spencer-Columbus edged Auburndale 7-6 in a defensive battle, and Mauston fell to Platteville 40-18. Owen-Withee defeated Clayton-Prairie Farm 55-28, Fall Creek beat Altoona 28-20, and Sparta defeated Black River Falls 40-24. Pepin-Alma defeated Elmwood-Plum City 49-6, St. Croix Falls defeated Unity 43-14, and Marathon defeated Loyal-Greenwood 24-16. Somerset closed out the night with a 38-0 shutout of Bloomer. Looking Ahead The high school football season is quickly picking up steam, and there is plenty more local sports action on the horizon. The college fall sports season is also getting ready to take center stage, with UW-Eau Claire Blugold athletics and UW-Stout athletics preparing to get underway. Soccer is arriving, football is right around the corner, and the fall sports calendar is about to get very busy.
