Todays Forecast:High pressure will continue to spin over New Mexico today, keeping Colorado in a sweet spot for monsoon moisture and elevated rain chances. It will also keep us hotter than average, with highs today in the 80s an d 90s on the Plains, and 70s and 80s in the higher terrain.Due to the potential for heavy rain producing thunderstorms, a FLASH FLOOD WATCH has been issued for the Aspen Acres burn scar. This will remain in effect from 3-9 pm. Thunderstorms will mainly impact the Pikes Peak Region and I-25 corridor between 4-10 pm, and some could be on the stronger side, capable of heavy rain and small hail.Colorado Springs forecast: High: 89; Low: 58. High temperatures today in the Pikes Peak Region will be around 5 degrees above average for this time of the year. Most of today will stay dry, with rain chances increasing after 4 pm. Much like what we saw this past Saturday, storms could be most active during the evening hours.Pueblo forecast: High: 94; Low: 61. Today will be hot, with elevated humidity and scattered late afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Storms will likely hold off until 4 or 5 pm.Canon City forecast: High: 92; Low: 62. Skies will remain mostly clear through early this afternoon, with our highs climbing back into the lower 90s. Anytime after 3-4 pm will be fair game for storms to develop, with storms possible past sunset this evening.Woodland Park forecast: High: 80; Low: 51. Clear skies this morning will give way to scattered thunderstorms towards the mid to late afternoon. Both low-end severe and flood threats will be on the table today in Teller County.Tri-Lakes forecast: High: 80s; Low: 50s. Our work week will begin hot and humid, with some garden variety thunderstorms in our forecast late this afternoon and evening.Plains forecast: High: 90s; Low: 60s. Storms should hold off on the Plains until either late this afternoon or early this evening. Storms today will be capable of 1" hail, gusty winds, and locally heavy rainfall.Walsenburg and Trinidad forecast: High: 80s/90s; Low: 50s/60s. Dry skies this afternoon will give way to the potential for a stormy night across the southern I-25 corridor. A few storms today could be on the strong to severe side.Mountains forecast: High: 70s/80s; Low: 40s/50s. Our mountain zones will be stormy this afternoon and evening, with a FLASH FLOOD WATCH issued in the Aspen Acres burn scar. It will remain in effect from 3 pm to 9 pm.Extended outlook forecast:Tuesday will be slightly cooler and perhaps a bit more active as a cold front drops in from the north during the day. Like today, we could see a few strong to severe thunderstorms on Tuesday, capable of heavy rain, 1" hail and strong wind gusts.Thunderstorm chances will peak on Wednesday, along with flood and severe threats. The tradeoff to seeing more rain and thunderstorms will be further cooling, with our high on Wednesday topping out at 83 degrees in Colorado Springs. The atmosphere will gradually dry out late this week and weekend, with a few isolated thunderstorms possible Thursday and Friday, but most look to return to the higher terrain.
