Local indoor gokart business in Hollywood helps racecar fans find high speed action during Freedom 250 Grand Prix

As the Freedom 250 Grand Prix is bringing racing to Washington, one Hollywood business is helping local racers get in the fast lane.
K1 Speed Fort Lauderdale in Hollywood is an indoor go-kart business that brings fast go-karts to South Florida.
“Closest thing I can imagine would be getting o
n the highway, when you’re sitting there and you’re taking that really hard off-ramp, a high speed turn,” said Jacob Chodrow, a K1 Speed racer.
However, there’s no highway, traffic, or speeding ticket involved, only high speed racing on electric karts, and a track for racers.
“It’s fabulous, it’s one of the easiest places to come in and get that racing energy in, you come in here and you’re going 45 miles an hour on an indoor track,” said Chodrow. “I think it’s hard wired into us to try to gravitate towards the more eclectic versions of what’s going on. Every single person, you get them out there on the track and they start repping laps around, and they’re having a fabulous time.”
On Sunday, IndyCar will put the world’s fastest racers into the backdrop of the nation’s most iconic monuments for the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Racers at the event said that the moment is once in a lifetime for them, and Chodrow also shared his excitement as well.
“It’s going to be electric, you have all of those stands, you have all these national landmarks going by as you’re ripping laps, you watch the drivers go by at 200 plus miles per hour, it’s going to be an amazing time,” said Chodrow.
For those behind the wheel, the point of racing is simple.
“If someone asked me, ‘what is the point of racing?’ The point of racing is just to have fun, be competitive, be the best you can,” said Henry Klappert, another K1 Speed racer.
7News coverage of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix begins at 11:30 a.m on Channel 7.
