A plane crashed into the ocean off the coast of Boca Raton, leaving one witness watching the dramatic moments that unfolded. The plane was captured on cell phone video flying close to the ocean, before it quickly hit the water on Saturday morning. “What the?” said Craig Sutton, who capture d video of the crash near South Beach Park. “Oh, that’s unexpected.” “250 South Ocean, it looks like an airplane crashed into the water.” was heard over the Broadcastify police scanner. “Aircraft crash at 250 South Ocean Boulevard.” The aircraft, a Piper PA-30, had taken off from Paige Field in Fort Meyers and was headed to South Bimini in the Bahamas when the pilot declared an emergency, according to investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration. The plane went down at around 2:40 a.m., two miles east of Boca Raton Airport. After the crash, Sutton shared what he saw with 7News. “The plane was flying really low, and it struck me as very odd that it was so low, and it kept getting lower and lower,” he said. “And it kept going and it eventually hit the water, and I was like ‘Wow, I can’t believe that, that plane is not supposed to do that.’ That’s not a plane meant to land on the beach, it was a good landing, like an amazing, big splash.” The pilot inside the plane was alive and unharmed, according to officials. The Boca Raton Ocean rescue and lifeguards responded and brought her to shore, where she was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. “The lifeguards were there, and they already called the police, and they walked the girl off from the plane. I saw them standing on the wing and jumping in the water and walking off. She was frazzled, but she seemed to be fine,” said Sutton. “A plane that’s not designed to land on the water, to land fairly safely and she didn’t look hurt other than being shaken up, so yeah, really impressed with her.” The plane was removed from the water early Sunday morning. ...read more read less
