Witnesses shared their story after an Amtrak train crashed into a car in Oakland Park and burst into flames. The crash happened near Powerline Road and Prospect Road, according to officials. A man and his son said they got a call saying that their family friend was driving the car which was hi t. However, they told the two that she was able to get out before the impact, and was not injured. They also said that the woman’s car had engine trouble before being slammed into. Several agencies responded to the incident, including Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Cell phone video captured the aftermath of the crash, which showed fire rescue crews responding to the blaze that started at the scene. Smoke was seen rising up from the crash site, which was captured in cell phone video from a witness driving by. “Oh my God,” said a witness who was driving by the scene, “It’s exploding under the train,” While BSO deputies said that no major injuries were reported, Oakland Park Fire Rescue officials said that one person from the train was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
