More Rain, Less Heat this Week
Aug 23, 2026
South Florida’s weather pattern continues to take a turn from hot and dry days to less hot and wetter days.
Moisture levels continue to increase, and by the second half of the week tropical moisture is poised to become trapped across to region, leading to higher rain chances compared to rec
ent weeks.
Before we get there, this Sunday will feature a bit more rain coverage versus Saturday. Expect spotty, coastal showers followed by afternoon storms, especially during the mid to late afternoon hours.
Otherwise, expect sunshine to give way to cloudier skies as the afternoon progresses and highs that will be hot and humid in the low to mid 90s.
Monday will then turn drier with only an isolated rain chance, but beyond then those chances starting to rise through the end of the week.
The overall setup each day this week will be for scattered morning showers by the coast to gradually push west and become more focused across inland areas during the afternoons. Depending on exact moisture levels and wind speeds, some days will feature longer-lasting areas of rain and more coverage, leading to the risk for isolated pockets of flooding.
We sure need the rain, so this will be welcome news! Plus, additional clouds and showers will keep temperatures closer to normal into the low 90s.
Tropical update
The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor three areas for potential development in the Atlantic, including a tropical wave set to move off from Africa this week.
While the other two areas are no a concern at all to the US and Caribbean, this tropical wave — like any other tropical wave in this part of the Atlantic basin — is worth watching.
This wave currently has a 50-50 shot of developing into a tropical system as it travels west but is not a worry to any land areas at this time. Just something to watch.
