Caltrans announced Saturday the reopening of a 10-mile stretch of Highway 1 in Monterey County following support of the Timber Fire emergency response. Authorities said the stretch was opened as of 1 p.m. Caltrans warns drivers to be cautious or use Highway 101 as an alternative route. Accordi ng to Cal Fire, the Timber Fire in Monterey County burned 7,591 acres and was 29% contained as of Saturday. According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, the evacuation order for MRY-F027-B was downgraded to an evacuation warning, zone MRY-F028 was divided into zones A, B, C, and D; MRY-F028-A, which includes areas west of Partington Bridge, was downgraded to an evacuation warning. Authorities said the zone MRY-F028-C remains under evacuation order and zone MRY-F029 was upgraded to an evacuation order. Besides those changes, the sheriff’s office said all of the other evacuation orders and warnings remain under effect.
